I am an investigative reporter at Mississippi Today, an award-winning nonprofit newsroom.

I graduated with honors from Columbia Journalism School as a fellow at the Toni Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism, where my master’s thesis explored the growing South Asian influence on American politics.

I am also a professional photojournalist. I started photographing the political, social and cultural movements around me when I first picked up the camera over a decade ago, and never stopped. My work has been published in outlets such as The Washington Post, The Guardian, TIME and Al Jazeera.

Formally, I am an attorney enrolled with the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa. I graduated from the National Law School of India University, Bangalore, after which I began my career as a corporate lawyer at Trilegal. Most recently, I led the legal research vertical at Land Conflict Watch, investigating and writing about land governance, environmental law and forest policy in India.​

 

My work has had a tangible impact. A story that I produced on a tight deadline resulted in a parliamentary question and heated altercation between current and former environment ministers of India. Another story, a combination of ground reporting, photojournalism and legal analysis was selected by the Global Investigative Journalism Network as one of the 8 best investigations from India in 2023. My master’s thesis, published by Al Jazeera, was cited soon after publication by the U.S. Congressional Research Service in its brief on religious freedom issues in India to inform legislative debate. In March 2025, my colleagues at Mississippi Today and I uncovered allegations, in partnership with The New York Times, that a sheriff had been using incarcerated “trusties” to work on his family’s chicken farm for years. Just hours after our article was published, the state auditor began an investigation into the allegations and alerted federal prosecutors. The investigation is ongoing.
